The present type of Borough Government
All of Council's powers are prescribed by Pennsylvania statutes, particularly the Borough Code. The Commonwealth has established a strong council/weak mayor form of government. In general, Council is empowered to adopt ordinances and resolutions in the interest of health, safety and general welfare of the residents.
Council consists of seven members, elected at large (not by wards or districts), for 4-year overlapping terms. Municipal elections are held in odd-numbered years.
Borough Council annually appoints the Treasurer, Solicitor, Engineer, Code Enforcement Officer, Secretary and Manager, all of whom serve at the pleasure of Council. The members of the various boards and commissions are also appointed by Council.
Borough Council Meetings are held the 2nd Monday of every month at 7:30 pm.
